Set a Timeline for Your Move

Updated: Jan 21, 2021

Preparing for a move can be very stressful, but you can make it easier on yourself by creating a moving schedule. By arranging to have a moving company help you well ahead of time and packing your belongings up in the weeks leading up to your moving date, you can ensure that your move is a success. Once you have secured the services of packers and movers in Phoenix about five weeks before you move, here is a general timeline that you should try to follow.

Four Weeks Before Your Move

While you shouldn’t start packing everything up just yet, you can start putting items that you won’t need between now and the time that you move into moving boxes. Make sure to label everything properly so that you will know where everything is once your house movers start transporting boxes to your new home. You should also alert your utility company and your landlord, if you have one, about your upcoming move.

Three Weeks Before Your Move

At this point, you can change your address with the U.S. Postal Service, obtain insurance for your new home, and even begin to eat or get rid of all of the food in your current home. If you have a pet, you should also begin to think about how you are going to transport it to your new home during your move.

Two Weeks Before Your Move

Start to pack everything that hasn’t been packed already. You can leave out essential items and enough clothing to last you until your move, but you should have just about all of your other belongings in boxes by now. You should also get rid of any items that won’t be making the trip with you.

One Week Before Your Move

Call your moving company to confirm that they will be ready to go on your moving date, pack a suitcase that has all of your essential items inside of it, and mentally prepare yourself for your move. If you have taken the necessary steps, you should be more than ready for it.
